There is an essence to childhood – a pure and simple joy in everyday events. Nothing quite compares to the wonder seen in the face of a child as he plays, runs, laughs and explores. Capturing that simple, natural and beautiful childhood innocence is Art. It’s a celebration of life.

We specialize in artistic, contemporary newborn, infant, baby, children’s and pet photography. Our unique, creative approach is the work of acclaimed photographer, Kim Balsman. Kim has been photographing children and pets for more than 20 years. A member of Professional Photographers of America and Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, Kim is also a respected educator and author on the subject of photography. Kim received formal photographic training from the NY Institute of Photography and has had the privilege of learning from several accomplished and master photographers. Kim’s work has been featured in national and international publications, in local businesses and in private collections throughout the US.

Kim’s style is a fresh blend of candid and lifestyle photography that beautifully captures the heart and soul of her subjects. Kim’s images are a celebration of life – simple, natural and full of emotion. A storyteller at heart, Kim loves to get to know her subjects so she can tell their unique stories with meaningful imagery. Sessions are very relaxed and lots of fun. They are generally done in your home or on location using living backdrops and natural light. Studio sessions are also available by request.

Kim is one of the leading portrait artists in Northern Colorado and enjoys serving the communities of Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont and Boulder. Kim is also available for travel throughout the U.S.

More About Me:

I love the smell of cinnamon. It just makes me happy. I love worn old sweatshirts and jeans and new age music. I hate brussel sprouts – my mom made me eat them as a kid – yucky I’m a hopeless Christmas elf – I start listening to Christmas music in late October – seriously! My favorite color is green. I love walks in the park and playing with my fiesty little Boston Terrier (that’s him in the photo with me). My husband, Bob, is my best friend. He works with me and keeps my computers running because I break them often . My kids are both teens and are my best friends, too. They remind me daily of how lucky I am. I love the fall, sunsets, romantic comedies, the mountains, camping, hiking and writing. I’m currently working on my first photography book (that I hope will be ready for publication in late 2010).

I looooove photographing babies and children and pets. It allows me to just be goofy ol’ me – quirky and casual. I think I have the best job in the world. Oh, and when I say I’m done shooting – I’m not. I’m never really done. It’s just too much fun.
